“Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.” – Psalm 90:14
Does your morning routine set the stage for how your day will be? Do little changes such as lack of sleep or a bad dream deeply affect the pace of your day? I know it does for me. If I don’t get enough sleep or sleep in for too long, it throws off my game and my day feels off.
What I’ve realized recently though was that my perspective of the day changes dramatically when I start my day out with God. I wake up a little earlier, get my coffee and toast, read a devotional and go through the Word.
If you need more convincing about doing your study in the morning, here are some reasons to set a new alarm and try a new routine in your Bible study.
You Wake Up to Him
I used to wake up and immediately reach for my phone. I would scroll through my social media apps, check texts and read emails. Usually, something within there would threaten to ruin my day or make me feel less than I am.
When I decided to put my phone down, and instead dedicate my mornings to God, I realized that my soul was a lot happier and I had a little skip in my step. Seeing His truth first before reading the world’s problems, makes facing it all a lot easier and it’s harder for the enemy to change my perspective.
I know waking up early can be less than ideal, but once you get yourself out of bed, put some coffee in your hand, make a good breakfast and have your Bible open in front of you, you realize how amazing it is to spend your first moments awake with God.
Your Perspective of the Day Shifts
Starting my day with God has allowed me to see His hand in the world and focus on Him throughout the day. My heart feels lighter as I go to work and the rest of my routine. Instead of seeing the day as, “Let me just get through today and then I will be one day closer to Friday,” I view the day as, “What can I do to make people happy today?”
The day is no longer something I just need to get through. It’s a whole day where I have the opportunity to get things done and help others, all the while giving glory to Christ.
You are Renewed
Every day is like a clean slate. We wake up in the morning and it’s a time where we feel like we can start over clean and fresh. When we wake up with God, He renews us and gives us a clean slate. You can feel it dramatically when you open up to God versus when you sleep in and hurry around the house.
You Learn to Take Your Time
We are always running around. All too often I have found myself waking up to my alarm, chugging down the coffee, stuffing toast in my mouth, getting dressed and running out the door only to get to work or school where I have tight deadlines and have to go from one thing to the next.
Waking up to moments with God allows me to press pause on my busy schedule and take time to rest and further my relationship with Him. It’s a time when my phone isn’t blowing up, I’m not rushing for work and nobody is around to distract me. I’m able to dedicate that time to God and listen to what He has to tell me.
If you haven’t tried starting your day out with Jesus, I highly suggest it. It is a great way to start your day on a good note and set the tone for the rest of the day. There’s nothing like it and will change your outlook on waking up in the morning.
