The Importance of Nursing Program Accreditation

Looking to make sure your online nursing program is from an accredited university? Every college student deserves a high-quality education and confidence in their degree. Grand Canyon University holds regional, college and program-specific accreditations for its programs, including its online nursing programs. If you are interested in earning your nursing degree online, look to GCU. Learn more about our nursing program accreditation:

Regional Accreditation

Regional accreditation is one of the most important things to look for when deciding where to earn your nursing degree. The Council for Higher Education Accreditation recognizes the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), which is one of the most respected accreditation agencies in America. The HLC has accredited GCU since 1968.

The accreditation is received after examiners from HLC personally visit the school and analyze the school’s academic operations. These examiners must verify and confirm that the school meets all of the HLC’s standards of core competencies, so that all students, both campus and online, can be confident that they are receiving a high-quality education.

Other Accreditations

GCU has many accreditations, ascertaining the level of academic quality and rigor provided by the university. Some of GCU’s programs across our colleges have earned accreditations from:

  • Accreditation Council Business Schools and Programs
  • Arizona State Board of Education
  • Arizona Department of Education
  • Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education
  • Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education

Who Accredits Nursing Schools?

GCU is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, a national accrediting agency officially recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education. In addition to the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, our nursing programs are also approved by the Arizona State Board of Nursing and the New Mexico Board of Nursing – this includes the bachelor’s degree program, the master’s degree program and the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP).

GCU is proud to offer accredited online nursing programs. To learn more about Grand Canyon University’s nursing program accreditation or our other degree programs, visit our website or click the Request More Information button at the top of this page.
