Jerome Garrison is a former Division 1 student athlete on Grand Canyon University’s basketball team who is the proud recipient of a Bachelor’s in Secondary Education from our prestigious College of Education. His favorite part about being a Lope is the relationships students are able to form with dedicated administrators, professors and coaches at GCU.
Anthony Perez is a highly accomplished College of Education alumnus who is gaining attention in the education community because of his accomplishments in his classrooms. Education in Arizona is currently struggling, and Perez sees this as an opportunity to serve and help the community grow.
Brent Phillips is a truly humble and passionate future educator, earning his degree in secondary education through Grand Canyon’s College of Education. Brent has a unique story as a U.S. veteran, and he has used his life and experiences to make a positive impact in the community. Specifically, with his love of astronomy, Brent is using his own self-funded astronomy outreach called VEGA to inspire and teach veterans and students of all ages.

Teachers who have a strong passion for what they do inspire their students. Teaching is not for everyone. However, when it is in the hands of someone who has an undying passion to not only educate, but also to impact the lives of students, it is a very rewarding career. Read along as Grand Canyon University alumna and Arizona Educational Foundation’s 2016 Teacher of the Year, Christine Marsh, shares her experience as a teacher and what she has learned about the importance of passion.
