Honors Student Spotlight: Myles Williams

Myles Williams Headshot

Marketing Major, Honors College

Most students spend their summer resting and having fun away from campus. However, Myles Williams, pre-physical therapy major, is not like the rest. Williams spent last summer shadowing and interning with Primary Care Sports Medicine in Tarzana, California and Sports Medicine Doctor at Progressive Therapy in Granada Hills, California.

At Progressive Physical Therapy, Williams’ role was to shadow physical therapists and with anything they needed for patients. At Primary Care Sports Medicine, he shadowed a sports medicine doctor and handled other tasks as needed.

“Throughout both internships, I really got an insight about the anatomy and physiology of the body,” Williams shared. “At Progressive, I learned and practiced different exercises and healing techniques such as E-Stim and the infrared laser machine in order to increase healing in the area of injury. At Primary Care, I got to observe multiple x-ray photographs and cortisone injections which explained the anatomy and the body to me.”

Getting the necessary experience and skills to be qualified for such positions is not a simple task. The Honors College has encouraged Williams to think deeper to develop those real-world experiences that businesses and organizations search for in candidates.

“The Honors College has really assisted me throughout multiple academic opportunities,” he said. “It has taught me how to be open to multiple ideas and practices, which has helped me conceptualize information a lot more efficiently. As an honors student, I have the confidence to excel in any field I am put in.”

Williams shares the following advice for future and current pre-physical therapy majors and all honors students, “My biggest advice to students is to not be afraid to put yourself out there for anything. People in any field will be willing to help and support you, but you need to make the first step by introducing yourself and asking questions that will help you in your profession.”

After completing his undergraduate degree at GCU, Williams plans to attend physical therapy school to earn his doctorate in physical therapy with the goal of serving a professional sports team and eventually opening up his own clinic.
