Finding Focus and Staying Motivated

By Cathleen Daly
Communications Major, Honors College

Stay focused. Stay motivated. Get involved.

It’s that time of year again. Classes are in full swing, summer nostalgia may be setting in and distracting you from finding focus and staying motivated this semester. Whether you are a new or returning student, finding the determination to take on everything that this new school year has for you can quite often become a challenge.

At the Honors College, we want you to be able to get into (or back into) the groove of your schedule by providing many resources and opportunities to help you get involved and get connected with one another. Here are a few tips on how to stay focused and motivated this year:

Write Down Your Goals

Grab a notebook and a pen! Write down everything you want to accomplish this year. Write long term. Write short term. Write personal, professional and academic goals. Just write. Post it where you will see it every day and let it inspire you to get out there and accomplish those goals.

Find a Mentor

Find someone who will challenge you while also walking beside you in your career journey. Need a mentor? Current students can contact a GCU Honors College liaison at honorscollegeliasons@gcu.edu

Take a Study Break

Everyone needs a break every once in a while. Attending Honors College events is a great way to make new friends while also taking a break from studying! Stay up-to-date about what’s happening in the Honors community by following us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram: @GCUHonors

Give Yourself Something to Look Forward To

Plan an awesome trip for next summer to reward yourself for all of this year’s hard work. Take advantage of the international travel excursions provided by the Honors College!
