On this week’s episode of Trending Faith, Grand Canyon University Pastor and Dean of Students Tim Griffin and Dean of the College of Theology Jason Hiles, PhD, discussed the topic of whether or not non-Christians should pray.

Pastor Tim began by discussing his experiences as a Chaplin, in which he often interacted with non-Christians who were not accustomed to the context of prayer. He found that often, there is a greater sense of sacredness in prayer with non-Christians than there is with Christians.

As Christians, we often take our personal relationship with Christ for granted. However, someone who doesn’t have this type of relationship is often very respectful, because they see the value of having a relationship with Christ.

Is public healing possible, or is it a hoax? Grand Canyon University Pastor and Dean of Students Tim Griffin and Dean of the College of Theology Jason Hiles, PhD, answered this question on this week’s episode of Trending Faith.

“There is a need for some critical thinking about what happens when it comes to how God heals and how He intervenes in our lives when it comes to physical issues,” Pastor Tim explained.

He went on to say he believes that in the digital age, sometimes people love the sensational and want to see something larger than life. He compared this to Jesus healing the sick, and people wanting Jesus to come to their villages to heal the sick to create faith and confidence in Him.

The question delved a bit deeper into GCU’s views on the sacraments, such as communion and baptism. Pastor Tim delved into the idea that GCU is not a church and that we really encourage students to find their own faith communities, churches or parishes, adding that we hope students grow more in their faith and learn what their viewpoint is on sacraments.

We are coming into times where persecution is a very real and raw circumstance in America. Dr. Hiles pointed out how there has been persecution of Christians for hundreds of years across a variety of cultures and people. People being persecuted for their faith is nothing new, and what we, as Christians, are experiencing is just a very minimal expression of that.
