Grand Canyon University is strongly devoted to helping students become socially responsible and compassionate servant leaders by impacting their local, national and global community. GCU students and staff are encouraged to look for community outreach and volunteering opportunities in order to bless others.

One of the ways in which GCU makes a difference is by hosting an annual Run to Fight Children’s Cancer. More than 12,000 children are diagnosed with cancer in the U.S. each year. To raise awareness and funds to fight childhood cancer, GCU sponsors a run every March that has raised thousands of dollars for the cause.

More than 1,500 runners and spectators attended the event, raising $30,000 for Children’s Cancer Network. Because of its success, the run has continued to be held on Grand Canyon University’s campus each year.

In 2015, nearly 3,000 cancer survivors, runners, walkers, volunteers and families gathered on GCU’s campus in order to participate in the run. To date, the Grand Canyon University Foundation has raised nearly $375,000 to support children and families affected by the disease.

This year, the event will take place on Saturday, March 12. Participants can choose from a 10K run, 5K run/walk or a Cancer Survivors Walk, and there will be post-race festivities for families to take part in. Some of the many activities will include a vendor expo, arts and crafts, jump castles and music.

Registration for the event includes an official race Dri-FIT shirt, a commemorative medal and goodie bag. In addition, all registration fees are donated directly to Phoenix Children’s Hospital and Children’s Cancer Network.
