Merry Christmas from Grand Canyon University!

By Lauren Abraham
Communications Major, College of Humanities and Social Sciences

Grand Canyon University would like to wish you a Merry Christmas!

Christmas is a season of great joy, especially here at GCU. This holiday signifies one of the most important events in history, and we look forward to celebrating it every year. While Christmas trees, candy canes and gifts are all parts of the holiday, the real meaning of Christmas is worth so much more.

As a Christian community here at GCU, Christmas is a time to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We recognize that God sent His Son to this world so that we may be able to spend eternity with Him. Therefore, the real meaning of Christmas is to celebrate this great act of love.

John 3:16-17 says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.”

So why do we celebrate Christmas? When we were in need of a Savior, God sent His Son for us. If we believe in Him and accept Him into our hearts, we can have eternal life! Out of gratitude for this act of love, Christians honor Jesus’ birth by exchanging gifts, worshipping Him and giving to those in need.

At Grand Canyon University, we aim to do just that! Each year, we celebrate Christmas with various events, including a special Chapel service and Canyon Cares Christmas. In all of our celebrations, we focus on the true meaning of the holiday.

Christmas is a very special time of year, and we hope you have a wonderful holiday spent with your loved ones! Most importantly, remember the reason for the season, which is to celebrate the birth of Christ!
